Normanhurst West Public School will remain non-operational on 25-26 March 2020 due to a second COVID-19 case.

The school is working with NSW Health to resume operations on Friday 27 March 2020 with alternative learning structures in place.

The department has been advised that a second staff member has returned a positive test for COVID-19. In accordance with advice from NSW Health all staff at the school have been asked to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

All NSW public schools are open. Parents and carers are encouraged to keep their children home if possible. The department has set up educational provisions to help students learn at home. All students, whether they are on or off campus, will continue to learn and will be provided with the same tasks to complete.

Students who have been identified as a close contact of the person who returned a positive test will be advised they should self-isolate for the required period of time. If you have not been advised to self-isolate you may continue your normal daily activities.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is of paramount importance to us at all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advised is adhered to.

The school is working to resume operations with alternative learning arrangement in place for students from this Friday. Students will be engaging in prepared resources and online materials until further notice.

Students of essential care workers and those families who wish for their child to attend school will be provided with minimal supervision from Friday 27 March 2020.

Alternatively, families who wish to keep their children at home can access learning materials online through the department's Learning from home resources.

The school will be led by Mr Matthew Pinchbeck as Relieving Principal during this time. Mr Pinchbeck is the substantive principal of Pennant Hills Public School and a former assistant principal of Normanhurst West Public School. Mr Pinchbeck will engage staff from other department schools while the regular school staff are in self-isolation.

The school continues to work closely with NSW Health to assist them to conduct their contact tracing process. The school has been cleaned and is ready for school to recommence on Friday when the contact tracing process has been completed.

We will be in contact with the school community again on Thursday 26 March 2020 in regard to the resumption of school operations with further details on the alternative learning arrangements.
