Parents and teachers are essential partners in the ongoing education of their children. A relationship of mutual interest, support and cooperation is essential.
Early Intervention Support Class
At Normanhurst West Public School, we have an Early Intervention Support Class that caters for children with a diagnosed disability before they start school. This program provides children with an individualised program that supports their learning and development of functional skills required for school.
Children enrolled in the Early Intervention support class usually attend for 2.5 hour sessions from 9:30am to 12pm two days a week. Class sizes vary from 5 to 7 children aged between four to six years of age.
If your child attends the Early Intervention Support class, it is recommended that they also attend a mainstream early childhood education program such as a preschool or childcare centre. Supporting successful inclusion for your child is an important focus of the Early Intervention Program.
If you believe your child would benefit from attending the Early Intervention support class, contact your local public school. They will be able to advise you on the application process. Enrolment in the Early Intervention Support Class is allocated through a formal Access Request process, submitted by your local school, after consultation with you and the school counsellor.
